Everyone Knows Someone
a healing arts campaign
The Harbor will be partnering with professional artists, writers, and photographers to offer free quarterly Healing Arts projects for survivors of sexual violence. Throughout the month of April, survivors will have the opportunity to be professionally photographed for a special awareness campaign that will be launched in late 2024.
About the project
“You are not a victim for sharing your story. You are a survivor setting the world on fire with your truth. And you never know who needs your light, your warmth, your raging courage.” –Alex Elle, American Author
For many survivors, sharing their story releases stress and trauma, and gives them an opportunity to use creativity to bring about healing, advocate for social change, connect with other survivors, and inspire others. How, when, and if a survivor wants to share their story is a highly personal decision, and one that should only be made only by the survivor. As we have seen via the #metoo movement, survivors’ accounts have had a powerful, transformative impact on cultural mindsets and legal systems, but we still have a lot of work to do to decrease stigma and end rape culture.
