SAAM 2023
Sexual Assault Action Month
April is Sexual Assault Action and Awareness Month. This year, The Harbor is organizing a Walk of Unshame protest, chalk the walk, restorative justice photo campaign for survivors to raise awareness and decrease stigma, and donation drive for specific needs of sexual violence survivors in our community.

Sexual assault is the most common yet underreported violent crime committed in America. 1 in 5 women in the US have experienced completed or attempted rape. 1 in 33 men in the US have experienced completed or attempted rape. Men are more likely to be struck by lightening than to be falsely accused of sexual assault. You are 230 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than falsely accused of sexual assault.

If you haven't been able to create a poster for protesting at the Walk of Unshame, you can join us to decorate your poster from 9-11am in the parking lot of The Harbor!
Come pick up some chalk from The Harbor staff and write words of encouragement to sexual assault survivors on the pavement around town.
Currently, the primary form of justice for survivors of sexual violence is to report to law enforcement. Studies show that out of 1,000 sexual assaults, only 25 rapists will be sentenced for their crimes. We encourage all who believe and support survivors to show their support. Wear whatever you want, bring your signs, and let's show up to support survivors in our community.
Bring your signs as we march from the post office/courthouse down Commercial Street to the Barbey Center, at the Maritime Museum.
